I've always had a thing for men with helmets. The head is the largest part of your unique identity, and putting on a helmet can be an expression of forsaking your identity to dedicate yourself entirely to your cause or belief.

The Primal animal hoods here allow Udyr to embrace and take on the animal aspects, greatly enhancing his abilities. But in a sense, we also often tie masculinity to that of a wild beast---an untamable savage animal predator. And the helmet here shows just how savage and ruthless a warrior he is... even when the rest of his body has been stripped bare and tightly restrained, he won't cease fighting back for even a minute.
